Mike’s academic pursuit began at Loughborough University in 2013 where he studied Sports Engineering (BSc). This entailed the design and development of sporting products such as golf clubs, cricket bats, tennis rackets, sports balls, footwear and apparel, but more importantly the science that goes into manufacturing them and how they interact with the human body.
Mike started his journey in industry at Puma’s Global HQ in Herzogenaurach, where he spent 12 months as a Footwear Developer. After gaining knowledge on textiles, leathers, synthetics, trims, lasts, uppers, moulds, BOM’s, SMU’s and the glue that surrounds each component, Mike joined New Balance at their European HQ in Birchwood where he practiced this newly acquired skillset.
With the hunger for product engineering well and truly seized, he then began to delve into the intricacies behind garment product creation. Moving from global sporting giants to a start-up business allowed Mike to understand the demands of running a brand and the problems that founders encounter outside of the design department. Mike obtained a true grasp of all departments; marketing, project management, sourcing, strategy, staff management, logistics, warehousing, buying and supply chains.
Shortly after, Mike moved to Amsterdam and joined one of Europe’s fasting growing streetwear brands, Daily Paper. He was hired as a Technical Designer and spent 3 years working on inline projects as well as brand collaborations with the likes of: Off-White, Crocs, Casio, BeatsByDre, Adidas, Ajax, Kappa and Redstar FC.
Upon returning to the UK, Mike became Creative Director at the technical outerwear brand 7L.
